Commercial

An LED retrofit pays for itself in energy and lamp replacement, but the controls are where the code lives. The 2025 Title 24 cycle tightened the rules again as of January 1, 2026: daylight-responsive controls now trigger at 75 watts of general lighting in a daylit zone, most general lighting has to dim continuously from 100 percent down to 10, and sign lighting is restricted to LED and neon — HPS, metal halide and fluorescent signs are out.

That last one is not theoretical. If you own a retail center, a dealership or a restaurant with a lit sign on a pole, it matters the next time you pull a permit.
